A light, bright extension that will become your favourite room of the house

Hip-end roof lantern

An orangery is a brick and glass extension with a flat roof featuring a roof lantern in the middle.

Because they have a flat roof, orangeries can be built across the entire width of the house without impeding upstairs windows. They're also an ideal choice if you've got height restrictions as you can achieve a larger floor area without adding the height of a pitched roof.

The roof lantern in an orangery is an elegant feature of the room, bringing light into the room compared to a solid roof, and spotlights can be put into the ceiling around the lantern creating a seamless extension of the house.

There are two different types of lantern: gable-end or hip-end, although the choice is down to your personal preference and the style of the house and extension.
